The actor’s instrument needs to be cleared of “everyday dross”. In order to become a channel of self-righteous impulses and responses, the body must be freed from physical and moral tensions. One’s personal and emotional material must be “worked” and transformed into useful energy for the scene, before using “chair relaxation”, an active relaxation technique inspired, explored and recounted by Lee Strasberg, one of the greatest teachers in the world. In order to have an active body and the actors participate in “spatial games”, relational activities, and activities with music.
Participants are sent a scene from a film (dialogue or monologue) about a week before the start of the workshop. Thus, the actor or actress begins the course with a memory of the text – if it is a dialogue, the actors make first contact with each other by way of a collective email, after which they can arrange to meet, get to know and rehearse with each other at least once before the course. Then, in person, after the initial rehearsal, each scene is scientifically analysed with the help of the Chubbuck technique, so that each actor can develop a critical eye and analytical tools. The material is then staged in depth several times on various levels.
